  • Photo Pin Lets You Use Flickr Images Easily, Cares For Licences

    photopin-homepage-w640-w550

We all need images more often than not. Be it to illustrate that new recipe in your favorite cooking forum or be it to have that blog post look more interesting. It is not exactly difficult to find images around the webs. But there are strings attached. If you are not aiming solely for pictures in the Public Domain (the platform Pixabay is for you, if you do), you will always be confronted with having to care for the licensing. Specialized platforms, such as Fotolia, try to make that task as easy as possible. They tell you explicitly, under which licence you can use any given image from inside their service and how you would have to attribute it. But, wouldn’t it be much nicer, if you could harvest the ever-growing Flickr portfolio, too? I know you theoretically can. I mean, practically…

  • Hotels in Phuket: 3 Awesome Design Concepts

Design is important. As you are readers of Noupe, one of the best design magazines this side of the milky way, you are certainly aware of that. Recently I had the chance to take a deeper look at three design-oriented hotel concepts over here in Thailand. And I saw that design sometimes just isn’t enough. For a hotel to be successful it must have a strong concept that appeals to an increasingly wide range of people from all over the world. I went to check the Millenium Resort, the Pimnara Hotel and the Color Kata Hotel, all three located in Phuket, Thailand. And this is my story…

  • Street Art In Thailand: Chiang Mai Graffiti

The meaning of a street artist’s work comes not only from its content, but also the laws, politics and religion, both official and unofficial, that govern the region. In Chiang Mai, in Thailand, street art is not necessarily illegal – the streets are filled with trash, good luck symbols and homemade signs – but many natives will tell you it is a form of expression that has no connection whatsoever with their country. They claim the few working artists are either westerners or Thais – mostly students – obsessed with western culture. But…

  • Pixabay: More Than 40,000 Completely Free Photos And Illustrations

    ´

As designers we are always on the hunt for good pictures. Noupe certainly needs fitting imagery now and then and even more often. That’s where photo-services, stock image providers and the like come into play. There are big marketplaces, offering you high-grade imagery at more or less affordable rates. Then we find repositories with free usage policies but varying licenses, which at times are not easily comprehensible. I have certainly been in trouble with this kind of mine-seeking. Pixabay, a fresh repository with a quickly growing selection of excellent imagery, is different, dead-simple. All the pictures are free, no license conditions apply. Pixabay delivers pure public domain photos.

  • Never Grow Up: An Interview with Photographic Artist Ruadh DeLone

One could argue that there are plenty of talented and creative artists to be found in this world, that every artist has a unique perspective and style. However, it also seems that every great once in a while, along comes an artist who breaks the normal boundaries of art far beyond his modern fellow artists. Ruadh DeLone, an artist from Rheden, Netherlands, fits into this category of a photographer/ photomanipulation artist in his own level of class. His original work is expressive, odd, thoughtful, and stunning. While some of his pieces are definitely simply artistic, others seem to be making a powerful statement about life.
