Today we are glad to release five grunge styles for Adobe Photoshop. These styles were designed by the german Photoshop artist Dirk Metzmacher and released especially for Noupe and its readers, including resources for textures, fonts and brushes.

You can load styles with the style palette. In case this window isn’t open yet, go to Window > Styles in the menu. Click on the little black arrow at the top right. The pop-up list lets you perform several actions regarding to styles. Pick “Load Styles…” to add another style to the current selection, or “Replace Styles…” to replace the current selection with another style.

You can active any of the styles by clicking its thumbnail icon. Any content of your layer (literally every single pixel) will be equipped with the style. That could be a drop shadow, a texture or a combination with more effects.

In another free font exclusive on Noupe, we present Rubber Font, a neat display font created by Yiorgos Yiacos. Rubber Font is a working but limited version containing roman capitals, numerals and some of the points of punctuation. Rubber Font is available as a free download for personal use only below.

Designer Profile

My name is Yiorgos Yiacos. I’m an illustrator and graphic designer. I’m 31 years old. I live and work in Athens, Greece. I am also quite a nice guy, when you get to know me.

I am a co-founder and former member of the PoorDesigners creative studio in Athens. At the present I work as an Art Director at Cream Advertising company in Athens, Greece and also freelance under the alias TwelveTimesTwo.

About the Font

The font started as the solution to a problem. It was for a poster that needed all letters perfectly aligned in both horizontal and vertical axis. The poster got rejected but the few letters I designed then, evolved to a full font which I named rubber as for me it is as flexible as this material.

All capitals except (i) have the same dimensions and work best when all spaces between letters (horizontally & vertically) are equal. I recommend 31pt line width when using the font at 72pt. The values should be changed proportionally.

This sample version contains only Roman capitals, numerals and some of the points of punctuation. I have already designed the full version which I intend to later make available for sale. It contains lower case (naturally), but also the Greek and Cyrillic alphabets, full punctuation, ligatures, etc.

Behind the design

As always, here are some insights from the designer herself:

The cheerful icons from the set can be used either by Windows or Mac users to decorate their desktops or web pages, during Saint Valentine’s Day or at any other time, when they feel love in their hearts. Anyone can use our icons in *.ico or *.icns format to replace standard desktop or other application icons. Also we released icons in png file format, so they can be used like a decoration on personal web pages or like presents in social networks. The Icons Set is free for download and commercial and non-commercial use, without any restrictions. Consists of 10 custom-made icons in resolutions 32×32,48×48,128×128 and 150×150 .png.

Today we are glad to release Pictodeck, a set of over 700 pictograms in vector format designed specifically for Keynote. That means you can rescale them to any size you desire without any loss in quality. All of the icons also support transparency. The set was created by Aaron Richard. The icons are from four different sets: PICOL, Android Icons, Pictoico, and Freshpixel. All are licensed slightly differently under Creative Commons. Please respect their copyrights.

The last slide contains a series of 32×32 bitmap icons for popular social networking sites. These icons were created by Komodo Media, which has also graciously chosen to license them under the Creative Commons.
