Hate to be that guy but…
Although much of this art is sci-fi and fantasy related, it is labeled as concept art because it is the visual realization of a specific concept, such as a character or environment. Concept art is much different than what some people call conceptual art, an art form in which all the ideas are laid out beforehand, and the actual execution of the work is something of a perfunctory affair. Think of machine generated art in which the artist simply decides the inputs.
