Mind-Blowing Female Vexel Illustrations

January 19th, 2010

Looking for some inspiring and appealing vexel illustrations? Here you go. Today we present probably one of the most distinguished forms of art. Basically, Vexel is the combination of two words; “Vector” and “Pixel”, and can be defined as the pixel-based form of digital art that emulates the vector graphics technique, but is different from normal vector graphics or raster images.

Vexel designs can be composed by using multiple layered shapes and can be done with any image editing software that has a good pen tool like the one used in Photoshop. Here we are presenting a collection of beautiful female vexel illustrations. We hope that you like them and will be inspired by it. If you like the artwork of a particular artist, feel free to explore more by clicking on the images which lead to artists’ websites.

  5. Jojje on January 19th, 2010 at 8:10 am

It looks like these are mostly photos vectorized in Illustrator. Not much altered or “illustrated” about them. Thanks anyway.

    • Belinda on January 19th, 2010 at 1:58 pm

Yeah I’d be interested to know how each of them have been done – which ones have been illustrated, which are just photos that have been vectorized and slightly edited, etc.

  6. Pusparaj on January 19th, 2010 at 9:30 am

Looks like except first couple of work all are pure vector. Excellent jobs!

  18. adam on January 20th, 2010 at 9:10 am

not mind blowing. these look like bad photoshop filters. Even the good ones suffer from inconsistent technique

  19. Web Design New York on January 20th, 2010 at 11:20 am

Awesome I have to retweet and stumble it

  20. Web Design New York on January 20th, 2010 at 11:27 am

    Nice collection. Thanks for posting.

  21. web design cheltenham on January 20th, 2010 at 1:24 pm

These could easily be produced from photoshop files, posterize with a bit of level adjustment etc

    • vangel on January 21st, 2010 at 2:25 am

Posterization looks a lot different to vexel work, you can tell the difference.

  22. TC on January 20th, 2010 at 2:45 pm

Some of these are decent, but many are underwhelming. Not exactly mind-blowing. I think it can’t be applied to just any portrait, the original image has to have almost no dynamic range for it to look good in Vexel form.

  23. Zé on January 20th, 2010 at 4:58 pm

    Just amazing vectors…It’s near perfection…

  24. vangel on January 21st, 2010 at 2:24 am

I’m glad you think my art is ‘mind-blowing’ but I prefer to be asked before being featured anywhere other than dA. So, thanks for the compliment, but ask in future?

  25. Poje Mario on January 21st, 2010 at 2:51 am

    Really cool collection ;)

  26. Tom Ross on January 21st, 2010 at 5:57 am

Some really realistic works here. I bet they were pretty time-consuming to create!

  27. Stefan on January 21st, 2010 at 11:25 pm

I dont see the point in spending hours and hours making photorealistic versions when they dont add anything to the original photo. Some of them are so good you can hardly tell if it is a photo or a vector illustration, so again, whats the point?

How ever, some of them are brilliant in the way that they acctually do change the picture ion to something new, so the look more like a painting or a comic character.

    Maybe It´s just me?

    • Laia on January 24th, 2010 at 9:53 am

I couldn’t agree more with you!
