HTML 5 and SVG: Providing a PNG Fallback with PHP and ImageMagick

Using SVG in web design has many advantages. Being a vector format is the biggest and has it standing out from the crowd of other image formats. You could have guessed, though, that while modern browsers do already support SVG, the good ole Internet Exploder doesn’t, at least not below version 9. As older versions of Internet Explorer are still out there in the wild, you should always consider implementing a fallback solution. Using PHP and ImageMagick makes it a snap to provide a fallback to PNG..

Picjumbo: A New Collection of High-quality, Commercial-use Photos for Totally Free

Photos are what web designers need in massive amounts. Yet, shooting each and every needed photo by yourself would soon become a full-time occupation in itself. Compromises are to be made. Thus, it’s no wonder that we see loads of stock libraries around. Who wants to use the same images, competitor X already uses? The need for heaps of fresh images is permanently rising. Besides the well-known stock libraries with their large collections of millions of pictures, smaller services have started to grow. Most remarkably these services offer smaller amounts of images, yet they do it for free. Some don’t even require back-links or proper attribution. Picjumbo by Viktor Hanacek from the Czech Republic is such a service…

Webydo vs. WordPress vs. Wix: Who Wins The Web Design Race? (Infographic)

The web design industry is changing. Web design was once dominated by hand-written code, using tools that were pimped text-editors at best. Then tools evolved to help web designers spare some of the repetitive tasks of hand-coding and support them more by offering auto-completion or syntax-highlighting. It’s only since a few years that we see tools which are able to achieve much more than that. A new generation of website builders has arrived to help people not only stint on coding but dismiss it completely. But, not all website creators are equal. Webydo, who wants to be the center of your web design business, has teamed up with visual.ly to show the state of the industry as of today in a comprehensive infographic. Lets’s take a deeper look into it. It’s worth it…
