Website Builder Wix Puts SEO Front and Center

It's a common prejudice. Websites made with site builders do not rank well in search engine results pages. Wix started a reputation campaign to correct this SEO misconception.

The Evolution of Website Builders

In the past, websites made with site builders tended to be different from the rest, and that's no compliment. Builders used to output source code that worked but was terribly bloated. Some even published to native Flash which was a no-go from the start. With the rise of the mobile web site builders started to rethink that approach. Today it is widely known that the best website is a standard compliant one. Ten years ago this was far from being widely accepted. Even though being one of the market leaders, website builder Wix took a while to learn that Flash sites are the farthest imaginable from any public standard. The paradigm shift started around the year 2010. Three years after the initial offering of the iPhone it became clear that these little devices would be there to stay. And it became obvious that they would change the way people surf the web forever. A whole industry reacted. So did website builders. Today's site builders deliver results that are closer to compliance perfection than what some of the self-proclaimed experts in the field offer. From the viewpoint of a demanding customer, nothing could be said to keep them away from products such as Wix and others. Even shop integrations and other more complex application demands are nothing too difficult for today's generation of web builders. It's safe to say that Wix leads the pack in this regard as their marketplace of add-on apps cannot be called other than massive.

SEO Hero, Your Mission: Eliminate the SEO Misconception

There is only one prejudice that sticks as hard as a pile of dog poo under the soles of your hiking boots. Sites from web builders are a disaster when it comes to SEO, it reads. And we all know that SEO is getting more important by the minute. So can we risk going with the builder solutions or do we need hand-crafted results? (Screenshot: NOUPE)[/caption] Since November 2016 the popular website builder Wix runs a reputation campaign to convince potential clients that the prejudice is entirely unjustified and wrong. They even dedicated a whole site to this topic and called it SEO Hero. On it, a team of „SEO heroes” solves challenges such as saving the internet from being completely linkless. I am pretty sure you will like the cartoon characters. The SEO hero has comprehensive tips and tricks for anyone interested in higher rankings. Its approach is humorous but still serious. Throughout the site, you can catch a lot of knowledge. After that go ahead and test it in their SEO quiz where Wix asks you questions you should easily be able to answer once you worked through the site.

Wix SEO Basics and Advanced

Besides the hero approach to things, Wix maintains an informative offering for their clients under the micro-site Wix SEO. Here you'll find detailed information on how Wix supports your SEO and what you need to do to be on top of the search engine result pages. I couldn't find an aspect they left uncovered. If you need step by step instructions, the Wix SEO Wiz, a smart assistant, will guide you on your way to better SEO. As I said, I couldn't find a thing lacking. From the technical standpoint, there is no reason why sites built with Wix should perform any weaker than any other site, hand-coded or not. If you're not too savvy when it comes to SEO, it is even more probable that your site will rank higher when using Wix. Just because they point you in all the right directions so you simply cannot miss out on anything important. I am in the business since 1994 and wouldn't hesitate to use Wix. SEO is certainly not a weak spot of that website builder.

  1. This is not such a bad idea if you are only starting your business and launching a website, however, advanced SEO methods demand connecting content via internal link structure, as well as implementing Jason+LD, and, most importantly, consistently categorizing pages internally via markup language per groups.
