  • Pexels and Travel Coffee Book: Two New Sources for Completely Free Photos

Oops, we did it again. Two more sources for completely free photos have been washed upon the shores of Noupe headquarters. I call them completely free, because both sources chose Creative Commons Zero as their license model. And as we all know, stuff licensed CC0 is free for any legal purpose, not even attribution is required. While Pexels is more of an aggregator of elsewhere already available material, Travel Coffee Book concentrates on collecting travel photography from all over the world. It resembles the popular Unsplash very closely. Both services deserve to be bookmarked. Here’s what you can expect…

  • More than 700 Free Stock Photos for Commercial Use – Raumrot and KaboomPics

We had free images since years ago. That’s not so very new. But what really is new is the growing professionalisation of these services and their offered material. Was professional photography the domain of commercial stock photo providers for ages, these days the lines start to blur. I personally have turned to looking through the free offers first, and only if I cannot find suitable imagery there, turn back to paid services. This is not only because I don’t have to or want to pay, it’s more because of my experience that the better pictures are with the free providers. Pictures taken with heart-blood, with a fire only an amateur can develop, not the boring standard interpretations of generic topics, photographed in generic ways. Today I want to introduce you to Raumrot and KaboomPics, both of which are brilliant examples of what I just said. If you are looking for high-grade and free stock photos for commercial use, covering a range of popular topics, a visit there is strongly recommended…

  • Weird Stock Photos You Wish You Could Use — Here’s How!

I’m dedicated to weird, so when a client complained the images I was using on business articles “looked like boring stock images” I decided that only those images that used metaphor and allegory would be used for his website. The weird and wonderful appeared in a simple Google Image search and my mission to find “not boring” stock images for my client was orgasmically realized! Some that I found are just too weird to ever be used on anything, which makes me all the more determined to find uses for them!

  • Titania Foto: Free Photo Collections, Made in Germany

This is a rarity. We often introduce you to free commercial-use photo providers. Rarely any of these stem from Germany, the country were the Noupe world headquarters happen to reside. Of course we have the great resource Pixabay.com coming from here, but besides that, needle in a haystack and such. This new entry we found a few days ago is one of this rare species. Titania Foto, maintained by Tania Timpone, which actually does sound Italian, but anyway, offers quite a few photos and doesn’t cost a cent.

  • Public Domain Archive: High-Res Photos for Free

The market of free photo providers is growing fast. After a decade of market domination, giant services like Shutterstock and others see themselves faced with a competition that will likely change the whole way this industry is structured. This new breed of photo services is different in one vital way, they don’t take money for the right to publish a picture. Some don’t even require you to mention them or say "Thank You". One of these high-grade new services stems from Athens in Georgia, US. Designer and photographer Matt Hobbs and his wife Shayna created and maintain it. It is still tiny in comparison, but already worth a visit or two.

  • Free Download: Trey Ratcliff’s 500 Best Photos in Full Resolution

This is definitely worth an article as well as your time. Trey Ratcliff, avid traveller and professional photographer, sat down last night and curated his 500 personal favorites from his great photography portfolio into one album. Then he went over to Google+ and released this album exclusively there. Trey is a heavy user of G+ anyway and the platform didn’t limit him to certain resolutions for his images. Out came a great and really large album of 500 high grade images in their fullest resolution.

  • IM FREE: Curated Collections of Free Commercial Use Photos No Designer Can Do Without

Okay, this is new. At least that’s how I decided to apologize why I didn’t notice this service by IM-Creator earlier. Remember IM-Creator? The homepage builder equipped with templates made by freelance designers itself targets freelance designers and not the DIY thirteen year old son of the CEO’s golf mate. It was this same homepage builder that secretly (well almost…) introduced a new offering named IM FREE. IM FREE hosts curated collections with free, also commercially usable photos. And it contains quite a few gems…
