  1. Whao..what an extensive list of Gimp tutorials. Really appreciate this post as I have been hunting up and down for a list of GIMP tutorials to brush up my skills in using this medium. Have bookmarked your post for future referrence:)

  2. A much needed post!!! Thank you!

Many of us just don’t have the budget for Photoshop and the high ticket Pro tools/plugins. Gimp, which is completly Free, is a great photo editing tool that will satisfy most budding graphic artists.

Putting together this list of tutorials is great!

    Cheers,

    Jeromy (AKA Hillbilly)

  3. I think Gimp is an awesome replacement for Photoshop if you don’t want to spend “Adobe-money”.. Tutorials for it make the program even better :)

  4. Thanks for putting this together. I’ve been using GIMP for years but I always have to start from basics as I only use it every few weeks. Starting points like this really help refresh the memory.

  5. Hey Everyone,
This post was just a test to see if GIMP resources and tutorials would be an interest to Noupe’s readers, and i think it is.
So stay tuned guys to see more GIMP tutorials and resources :)

  6. How is this any better than Photoshop! I am really confused! I have never heard about this program before? though sometimes I do live under a rock!

    What are the advantages, disadvantages?

  7. It’s not that GIMP is better or worse than Photoshop. There are plenty of discussions already about this on the internet, and as some clever guy pointed out, they’re completely unnecessary. GIMP is another program, not a Photoshop copy. It follows its own path and own goals, features, …

However, you can do anything with GIMP that you can with Photoshop. If not, you just don’t know how to use it. And it doesn’t cost you 999$ either.
The only differences between Photoshop and GIMP are some functions you may never use in your whole life.
If you need to use those, you’ll already be a professional and know whether to use GIMP or Photoshop for the current task…

    1. I have GIMP, but cannot figure out how to get an image into a rectangle to start my ebook cover. I click on the rectangle, open the image and nothing happens. The only way the figure will appear on my GIMP workspace is if I put the image there first, but then I can’t put in any background color or test. Can any one help this newbie?

      Thanks so much.

  8. Yeah, if you can unearth some more GIMP tutorials, that’d be great! I keep a collection on my del.icio.us bookmarks. I’m adding this blog post as one right now.

As for GIMP vs. Photoshop, what I’m hearing/reading is that if you need to use CMYK features, use Photoshop….but if you’re in a situation where you need that, you’re probably already using it anyway. GIMP is pretty powerful, and I’m finding a lot of good uses for it.

  9. I’ve used GIMP religiously for about 12 months, and thought I had taught myself a lot of great stuff … but this list gives me a lot of extra stuff to apply.
Thanks, I’m adding a lot of these to my delicious.com for future reading.

  10. hello, I just wanted to stop by and say thanks for including several of my tutorials on that list :) means a lot. I hope to see additional Gimp content as well.

As far as the PS vs Gimp conversation goes, I’d say if you are new to graphics and would like to pursue it, try Gimp first to see if you really are into it and you are decent at it. You won’t magically improve using Photoshop, it is all about the knowledge of the programs, I use both all the time.

  11. What is this? every link i click on opens up an add website, or another tutorial search. None of the tutorial links here work for me…..

  12. Thank you for these!! I have put several of them to use already with stunning results!! I’m excited about finally learning how to use a lot of the stuff in this program. It’s people like yall who make the difference!

  13. Great collection of tutorials. I’m adding your link to my site that helps people design graphics for a site called Zazzle. I love GIMP and think it’s a great alternative to popular graphic programs out there.

  14. Great tutorials! Thank you SO much. I ahve gimp for a while now, but I actually never learn how to use it in the right way. So thanks!

  15. Great resource! I just bookmarked it. If you have any resources on making a simple 3d man that I see on shutterbug please let me know. Thank you kindly in advance

  16. For all the wonderful tutorials, Thank You, Vielen Dank, Spacibo, Dank U, Mercie, Obrigado, Grazie, Dekujeme, Gracias.

  17. Wow I like the images you made using GIMP. I like all those 20 awesome images manipulation tutorials you made. Now i have an idea on how to create one of my own also. Thanks!

  18. Looked at at least 50 tutorials. Haven’t found one yet that starts at the start, step by step. All too advanced for this elderly wannabe.

  19. Hey Man,
    Like the tutorials.
Do you think you could make one on how to design the imagery of a website like yours?
With the tropical leaves over the top of the page, it looks incredible!
What program do you use to create your websites?
I think a tutorial of this nature would be hugely popular!
    Cheers,
    Chris.
